Marilyn Doheny is a self made internationally famous, Contemporary Quilt Artist. She is a significantly published author having written over 30 books and patterns. Along with her specialty rulers, The 45 degree Kaleidoscope Wedge and her 9 Degree Circle Wedge Rulers she has transformed the world of quilting.

Marilyn is both a fabric person and a people person. She is enchanted and delighted to play with color and geometry, designing patterns and inspiring others with their appeal. She calls her mind "the night crew" as the designs just come to her in the night! Then, during waking hours, she invents streamlined techniques - which every skill level can easily use. They are "silly simple" enough for anyone to follow - so that everyone can make her designs easily. The breadth of her work is amazing and the look of her innovative patterns has become her "signature".

She assures success for everyone who takes her classes or buys her quality books, patterns, and rulers.....It is Marilyn's weekly delight to receive letters and e-mails showing photos of proud quilters - around the world - standing beside their quilt, beaming with joy - and quite often featuring an award winning ribbon!

Marilyn was born and raised in Long Beach California the second of 4 daughters to the Wellman family. She moved to Seattle Washington as a young bride at the age of 18 with her high school sweetheart, Brian Doheny. While in Seattle, she became a quilter and the proud mother of 3 children. She began quilting in 1980, when the first of her 3 children was born. Her first and only quilting class was 8 weeks long and involved making one pinwheel pot holder. She actually never finished that potholder and before the end of her 8 week class, where the potholder would have been sandwiched, hand quilted and then bound, Marilyn was employed at a fabric store teaching quilting herself. SHE IS A DYNAMO!

Her most recent endeavor, undertaken in January 2010, is very exciting and involves a lifelong dream! Marilyn purchased an old historic Inn built in 1889. It is situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. It is called Marilyn's Melrose Inn - Artist Retreat Center. She intends to multiple herself by teaching professional quilters, shop owners and teachers, to have fun and make a living offering her classes via their skills. She will have retreats for non-professionals too! Productivity and fun will be the theme of each session. Everyone will go home with significant work accomplished and enough excitement to light up their lives.

This demonstration shows how to take simple strips of "high contrast" fabric (or printed stripped fabric) and using Marilyn Doheny's 9 degree Circle Wedge Rulers - cut wedges at assorted angles creating a diverse array of fan patterns!

Marilyn will show how simple fabric units called "strata" can be cleverly cut apart to create amazingly contemporary quilt images. All images are very powerful geometric patterns, based on traditional blocks - yet strikingly contemporary using her fabric and cutting techniques.

This demonstration is filled with quilts of all sizes, made from fans that have been turned into flowers, butterflies, bumble bees, dragon flies and birds. The entire diverse fan images have been quickly and easily made using Marilyn Doheny's creative 9 Degree Circle Wedge Rulers. Simple sewing and almost no seam matching are featured!

Mesmerizing flowing motion, can be quickly created, "in the moment" using a few simple techniques developed by Marilyn Doheny. Audience participation with no pre-planning or graph paper will create undulating peaks and swells using fast accurate cutting techniques. There are three rules for a fabulous Bargello Tapestry Quilts appeal - come and learn what they are and how to use them yourself, perhaps to win a ribbon at the next quilt show or perhaps gain a hug from a loved one!

As a Public Show Salesperson you will be responsible for the financial success of our public expo events. You will be responsible for selling the expo by contacting former vendors and cold calling potential new vendors as well as sponsorship and help build attendance. Your responsibility will be to foster and maintain relationships with key industry accounts to increase vendor sales and attendance by communicating the value of the event. Candidate will also assist in expanding to different markets.
